NEWS
Keith Haring (1958–1990) was a leading American artist of the 1980s, known for his bold lines and bright colors. Did you know he visited Hiroshima in 1988?
Haring came to Hiroshima hoping to paint a mural for a more peaceful world. He searched the city for the perfect spot and kept thinking about how to make his dream come true even after returning to New York.
Later, Haring was diagnosed with “AIDS,” a disease that had no treatment at the time. Despite his illness, he never gave up on his Hiroshima dream but sadly passed away about a year and a half after his visit, at just 31 years old.
In this event, we will share Haring’s reflections on Hiroshima and explore the meaning of peace together. Draw your own twin birds of peace on a large banner!
